OBERLIN, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team competed in the second day of the three-day Oberlin College Invitational Tournament. Two Yellow Jackets had perfect days overall and three were spotless in singles play.
The tournament will resume on Sunday morning (Sept. 16) in the final day of competition as singles matches will start at 9:00 a.m. at the Don Hunsinger Tennis Courts.
The two unbeaten student-athletes were freshman Kelsey Blatt (Tallmadge) and junior Whitney Yoder (Medina). Each player was 2-0 in singles and 1-0 in doubles.
Blatt beat Heather Fantry of Kenyon by the scores of 2-6, 7-6 (7-5) and 11-9 in the tie-breaker and then beat Mary Stein of John Carroll by the scores of 6-2 and 6-3. She also teamed with senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC player Rebecca Mittler (Elyria/ Elyria Catholic) in doubles to beat Stein and Stacy Engel of JCU, 8-3. Mittler finished 1-1 in singles play.
In singles play, Yoder beat Kaley Hoffman of Ohio Wesleyan University, 6-0 and 6-4, and then beat Ellie Magner of Ohio Wesleyan University, 7-5 and 6-4. She teamed with freshman Mackenzie Donalson (Hilliard/ Davidson) in doubles to beat Miranda Hall and Jabilayh Asante of Allegheny (Pa.) College, 8-5.
Senior Danielle Rueger (Ashland) also had a 2-0 mark in singles as she beat Hall of Allegheny, 6-2 and 6-0, and then topped Elise Altschuler of Kenyon, 6-1 and 6-1.
Following the Oberlin Invitational, the BW women wrap up the fall portion of its 2012 fall season at the annual ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) Central Region Tournament from Sept. 28-30 at Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana.
