BW Women’s Tennis Team Defeats Edgewood (Wis.)

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team defeated Edgewood (Wis.) College, 7-2, today (Monday, March 11, 2012) at the Hilton Head Beach & Resort on the first day of their Annual Spring Break trip. The Yellow Jackets will play six matches in four days in Hilton Head.

With its victory, BW improves to 1-4 overall and is 1-1 on its annual spring break trip prior to playing Tusculum (Tenn.) College this afternoon at 3:00 p.m. With its loss, Edgewood falls to 12-4 this season.

BW led, 2-1, after doubles play, and won five of six singles matches to capture the victory.

In doubles play, the No. 1 tandem of three-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference and two-time All-Academic OAC senior Rebecca Mittler (Elyria/ Elyria Catholic) and freshman Kelsey Blatt (Tallmadge) defeated freshman Morgan Wilson and sophomore Laura Olsen, 8-6, and improved their season record to 3-8.  At No. 3 doubles, freshman Mackenzie Donalson (Hilliard/ Davidson) and junior Whitney Yoder (Medina) defeated freshman Ashli Paulson and junior Kristen Boone, 8-6, and improved their record to 4-5.

At No. 1 singles, Mitler defeated Wilson, 6-1 and 6-4, and improved her overall record to 4-6. No. 2 Blatt beat Olsen, 2-6, 6-2 and 10-5, to improve to 5-5; at No. 4, Donalson defeated freshman Ellie Wilkie, 7-5, 3-6 and 10-4, to improve her record to 3-8; at No. 5, All-OAC senior Danielle Rueger (Ashland) beat Paulson, 6-2 and 6-1, and improved her record to 3-7; at No. 6, freshman Mackenzi Baker (Vermilion/ Elyria Catholic) defeated Boone, 6-3 and 6-4, to improve to 2-7.
 
Following its match this afternoon against Tusculum College, the Yellow Jackets are back in action tomorrow when they take on Denison University at 1:30 p.m.  On Wednesday, BW plays Fairleigh Dickinson (N.J.) University at 8:00 a.m. and Greenville (Ill.) College at 3:30 p.m.  The first northern match is at Division III powerhouse Kenyon College on March 22, the first Ohio Athletic Conference match is on March 27 at Muskingum University and the first home match at the "Pop" Collins Tennis Complex is against The College of Wooster on April 3 at 4:30 p.m.
