Mittler Passes 100 Wins as BW Women Beat Muskingum, 9-0

NEW CONCORD, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team opened Ohio Athletic Conference play today (Friday, April 5, 2013) by beating rival Muskingum University, 9-0. Highlighting the victory was senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC No. 1 singles and doubles standout Rebecca Mittler (Elyria/ Catholic), who won her 49th career singles match, 52nd career doubles match and became the 10th women's tennis student-athlete in school history to surpass 100 career combination wins.

Mittler's singles win moved her into 11th place on the school's all-time win list. Mittler beat Muskingum's Lindsay Mullen by the scores of 6-0 and 6-0 to improve to 49-43 in singles for her career.  In doubles, Mittler and freshman Kelsey Blatt (Tallmadge) beat Muskingum's Mullen and Rebecca Keeley by an 8-1 score for her 53rd career doubles win to move into eighth place all-time. Mittler surpassed CAPITAL ONE Academic All-American Thersa Olenick (1994-97) and former All-OAC and Academic All-OAC teammate Emily Pelosi (2007-2011), who had 52 career doubles wins.  Overall, Mittler's 101 career combination wins ranks 10th.

With its victory, BW improves to 4-7 overall and 1-0 in the OAC and has won three of its last four matches. With its loss, Muskingum falls to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the OAC.

BW led 3-0 after doubles play and won all six singles matches to capture the victory.

In addition to Mittler and Blatt in doubles play, the No. 2 duo of sisters of freshman Mackenzi Baker (Vermilion/ Elyria Catholic) and junior Morgan Baker (Vermilion/ Elyria Catholic) beat Muskingum's Casandra Sarver and Renee Staudt by an 8-0 score.  At No. 3 doubles, freshman Mackenzie Donalson (Hilliard/ Davidson) and junior Whitney Yoder (Medina/ Senior) defeated the Fighting Muskie duo of Autumn Nelson and Johanna Smith, 8-4.

In addition to Mittler's win in singles, Blatt beat Muskingum's Keeley at No. 2 by the scores of 6-0 and 6-1; Morgan Baker beat Sarver at No. 3 by a 6-1 and 6-0 count; at No. 4, Donalson defeated Staudt, 6-1 and 6-1; at No. 5, All-OAC senior Danielle Rueger (Ashland/ Senior) beat Nelson, 6-0 and 6-1; and at No. 6 Mackenzi Baker defeated Smith, 6-0 and 6-0.
 
The Yellow Jackets return to action tomorrow, April 6 at 1:00 p.m. when they host the University of Mount Union Purple Raiders at the "Pop" Collins Tennis Complex.
