Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Wins 50th Sparky Adams Meet

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's outdoor track and field teams won the 50th Sparky Adams Invitational, hosted inside George Finnie Stadium.

BW finished first of four teams with 158 points. Ohio Athletic Conference and crosstown rival John Carroll University finished as the runner-up just seven points behind with a total of 151 points.

Junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC thrower Ted Achladis (Avon Lake/Elyria Catholic) put together his best performance of the season to lead the Yellow Jackets in the field. The junior won the shot put with a season-best throw of 51 feet, 3 inches and then followed it up with a third-place finish in the discus with a season-best mark of 156'1". The two-time reigning OAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week in senior All-OAC thrower Zak Dysert (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry) won the hammer throw for the fifth straight week as he hit a mark of 198'10".

Meanwhile, the BW distance crew ruled the day on the track with a trio of event wins. Freshman distance runner David Prather (Hardin, Mont.) notched the first win with a career-best time of 4:08.93 in the 1,500-meter run. Freshman distance runner Joe Juda (Strongsville) led a Yellow Jacket sweep of the 800-meter run, breaking the tape in 2:04.15. Fellow freshman distance runner Nate Matthews (Marietta) was not far behind with a runner-up time of 2:05.83 while sophomore distance runner Larry Salerno (Mentor) posted a career-best 2:06.68 to finish third in the same event.

Another podium sweep came out of the 5,000-meter run, led by sophomore distance runner Spencer Roberts's (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca West) career-best time of 15:38.95. Sophomore distance runner Jose Reynoso (Painesville/Harvey) was the runner-up in a time of 15:57.32 while freshman distance runner John Komaromy-Hiller (Edgewood, Ky./Villa Madonna Academy) crushed his previous 5k career best by running a time of 17:24.85.

In relay action, Matthews, senior Academic All-OAC sprinter Brandon Cole (Vermillion), Prather and Juda combined to win the 4x400-meter event in a time of 3:35.19.

BW will next compete in the two-day Ohio Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships, hosted by Otterbein University, on Friday, April 26, beginning at 12 p.m. inside Memorial Stadium.
