Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Stands Fifth after Day One of OAC Championships

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's outdoor track and field teams currently sit in fifth place after the first day of the 2019 Ohio Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships, hosted by Otterbein University inside Memorial Stadium.

BW is in fifth place of 10 teams with a total of 21 points. Crosstown rival John Carroll University leads the championship meet with 71 points.

Junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC thrower Ted Achladis (Avon Lake/Elyria Catholic) picked up BW's lone All-OAC honor of the day. Achladis placed third in the discus throw with a toss of 153 feet, 7 inches while senior All-OAC thrower Zak Dysert (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry) finished sixth in the same event with his longest throw of 145'1". Dysert also earned two points for the Yellow Jackets with a seventh-place finish in the javelin throw when he hit a mark of 147'11".

Only three finals were contested on the track today with two BW distance runners adding to the team total. Sophomore distance runner Spencer Roberts (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca West) placed fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and crossed the finish line in 9:45.40. Senior distance runner Spencer Mahon (North Royalton) finished sixth in the 10,000-meter run in a career-best time of 32:18.99.

Senior indoor All-American sprinter Jordan Leverette (Cleveland/John Adams) qualified for tomorrow's 100-meter dash finals by winning his heat and posting the third-fastest overall time of 10.79 seconds in the preliminaries.

In relay action, sophomore distance runner Jose Reynoso (Painesville/Harvey), freshman distance runner Nate Matthews (Marietta), freshman distance runner Joe Juda (Strongsville) and freshman distance runner David Prather (Hardin, Mont.) placed sixth in the 4x800-meter relay in a time of 8:19.17.

BW will conclude the 2019 Ohio Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday, April 27, beginning at 9:30 a.m. inside Memorial Stadium.
