BW Men Capture Cleveland College Championships

BEREA, OHIO –   The Baldwin Wallace University men's indoor track and field team finished first tonight at the annual Cleveland Colleges Championship Meet on the Harrison Dillard Track in the Lou Higgins Center. The meet consisted of four NCAA Division III schools and two NCAA Division II schools.

The Yellow Jacket men were first of six teams with 149.50 points and had six first place finishers. The title was the first in six indoor meets this winter for the BW men

The BW men were paced by junior sprinter Kevin Johnson (Maple Heights/St. Ignatius) as he set or tied two school records. Johnson captured the 55-meter dash in a time of 6.41 seconds. He broke a 28-yeard old school record when he ran a time of 6.31 seconds in the prelims.  In the 200-meter dash, Johnson tied the school record as he finished first in a time of 22.71 seconds.

The Yellow Jacket throwers were led by senior three-time NCAA Division III All-American thrower Mitch Supan (Medina/Walsh Jesuit) who placed first in the weight throw with a toss of 59 feet and two inches. Coming in third was senior teammate Jake Buckey (Geneva) with a throw of 51' 6.25". In the shot put, senior Zach Marinucci (Brunswick) placed first with a throw of 51' 6.50". Tyler Burdorff (Painesville/Riverside ) took second with a distance of 47' 1.75".

In addition, senior CAPITAL ONE Academic All-American distance standout Ken Janosko (Mentor) won the men's 5000-meter run in a time of 15:14.17. Freshman sprinter Tom Elton (Akron) placed second in the 400-meter dash in a time of 53.65.  Freshmen Ben Biedelman took second in the 200-meter in a time of 22.97 seconds. Sophomore Issac Baker (Lithia, Fla./Newsome) took third in the 800-meter run as he crossed the finish line in a time of 2:03.69.

In the 4 x 400 meter relay, the team consisting of junior Josiah Holt (Elyria/Grafton Midview), sophomore Ryan Weir (Lodi/Cloverleaf), freshman Jarod Conrad (West Lafayette) and Johnson won in a time of 3:31.52.

Tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 16, select Yellow Jacket individuals will compete at the Kent State University Open Meet at 11:00 a.m.
