BEREA, OHIO – The Baldwin Wallace University men's indoor track and field team opened its 2013 season tonight (Friday, January 18, 2013) at the BW Mid-January Meet on the Harrison Dillard Track inside the Lou Higgins Center.

The men finished second of six teams with 139 points.

The Yellow Jacket men were led by senior NCAA Division III All-American thrower Mitch Supan (Medina/ Walsh Jesuit), senior Div. III national qualifier Zach Marinucci (Brunswick) and freshman Ben Biedelman.

 

Supan finished first in both the 35-pound weight throw and shot put with throws of 57-feet and 6.25 inches and 52' 9.5", respectively.  Marinucci placed second in the shot with a mark of 50'.5.5" and third in the weight with a throw of 48'3.5". Biedelman won the 200-meter dash in a time of 23.21 seconds and was a member of the winning 4 x 200-meter relay team, comprised junior Division III All-Americans Shawn Cordes (Litchfield/ Medina Buckeye), Josiah Holt (Elyria/ Grafton Midview) and Kevin Johnson (Maple Heights/ St. Ignatius), who crossed the finish line in a time of 1:32.12.

 

In addition in the field events, senior Jake Buckey (Geneva) placed second in the weight throw with a mark of 50'4.75" and sixth in the shot put.

Also in the running events, senior 2011 Ohio Athletic Conference Co-Cross Country Runner of the Year Kenny Janosko (Mentor) won the 3,000-meter in a time of 8:53.63, sophmore Ryan Weir (Lodi/ Cloverleaf) won the 400-meter dash in 53.50 seconds, sophomore Alex Evers (Middlefield/ Burton Berkshire) placed second in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.43 seconds and sophomore Issac Baker (Lithia, Fla./ Newsome) finished third in the 800-meter run in 2:04.02.

The Yellow Jacket track and field teams are back in action on Friday, January 25 when the teams travel to Alliance to compete in the Ohio Athletic Conference North Split Meet hosted by the University of Mount Union inside the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex (MAAC) at 5:00 p.m.  The next home meet is on Friday, February 8 when the BW hosts the Mid-February Meet on the Harrison Dillard Track at 5:00 p.m.
