12 BW Football Players Selected Academic All-OAC

BEREA, OHIO --  12 Baldwin Wallace University football student-athletes have been named to the 2013 Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference team.  To qualify, each student-athlete had to have a minimum 3.495 grade point average or higher and achieve varsity status on his or her team.  BW had the second most selections of any OAC institution.

The football student-athletes are Gabe Adams (Hudson),Zack Barley (Hudson), Addison Carbone (Hudson), David Flegal(Akron/Revere), Joe Kasper (Mentor), Dan O'Brien (Warren/Howland),Kyle Ohradzansky (Avon/Canton McKinley), Dan Reed (Knox, Pa./Keystone), Michael Slack (Casselberry, Fla./Pine Castle Christian Academy), Nolan Sordyl (Gurnee, Ill./ Warren Township), Zac Wojciechowski (Cambridge) and Lawrence Wolfe(Creston/Norwayne).

AdamsBarleyFlegalSordyl and Wojciechowski garner Academic All-OAC accolades for the second time. 

Adams is a senior wide receiver who carries a 3.667 grade point average in economics and is a member of the BW Honor Program. He caught two passes this season for 47 yards. The two-time All-OAC selection also had 38 career receptions for 674 yards for a 17.7-yard average. Adams also was selected as a Fellow in the Center of Innovation & Growth in 2012, is a Jacket Scholar and member of numerous honor societies. During his four seasons in the Brown & Gold, he helped BW compile a 28-12 record with a .700 winning percentage.

Barley is a senior safety who carries a 3.879 grade average in psychology. The team quint-captain had 29 tackles this season despite missing two full games and parts of two others with an injury. During his career, the four-year varsity contributor and two-time Academic All-OAC student-athlete played in 29 career games, had 101 tackles, three interceptions and 14 pass breakups. In addition to being Academic All-OAC, Barley is a two-time CAPITAL ONE Academic All-District 7 selection and currently appears on the CAPITAL ONE Academic All-America national ballot.

Carbone is a junior defensive tackle who carries a 3.678 grade average in marketing. After recovering from a season-ending injury a year ago, he had 33 tackles this season, including a quarterback sack and four tackles for lost yardage. In addition to playing football, Carbone earned a letter as BW's starting 285-pound wrestler in 2011, and last season while being out with his injury he was the color analyst on BW football and basketball broadcasts on campus radio station WBWC, 88.3 FM. Carbone also was named as a first-team CAPITAL ONE Academic All-District 7 selection and currently appears on the CAPITAL ONE Academic All-America national ballot. He enters his senior season with 67 career tackles.

Flegal is a senior outside linebacker who carries a 3.867 grade average in accounting. He was the Yellow Jackets' leading tackler this fall with 114 and twice earned OAC Defensive Player of the Week honors. Flegal also was named as a first-team CAPITAL ONE Academic All-District 7 selection and currently appears on the CAPITAL ONE Academic All-America national ballot. The Jacket Scholar, who has 140 career tackles, received the Fred Crossman Leadership Prize at Honors Day in 2013 and is a member of numerous honor societies.

Kasper is a junior safety who carries a 3.944 grade average in political science and has the highest grade average on the Yellow Jacket varsity. He had his best season as a collegian with 66 tackles to rank third on the team. He also had five pass breakups, two forced fumbles and one fumble that he recovered and returned 48 yards for a touchdown. Kasper has career with 73 tackles and is a member of the Alpha Lambda and Chi Sigma Alpha honor societies.

O'Brien is a junior outside linebacker who carries a 3.776 grade average in biology and neuroscience. He had his best season as a collegian with 68 tackles to rank second on the team, and he led the team with three interceptions. The Jacket Scholar and Dean's List student was the OAC Defensive Player of the Week on September 28 when BW beat Muskingum, 23-13. O'Brien enters his senior season with 80 career stops.

Ohradzansky is a junior quarterback who carries a 3.533 grade average in accounting. He split time with fellow Academic All-OAC quarterback Michael Slack this season. Ohradzansky completed 35-of-67 passes for 336 yards with two TD's and ran the ball 60 times for 239 yards and three scores. He transferred into BW last winter.

Reed is a senior wide receiver who carries a 3.798 grade average in education and integrated science. He caught four passes for 29 yards. Reed also was a key special teams player the past three seasons. Last spring at Honors Day, he received the Ted & Irene Theodore Scholarship. Reed also is a Jacket Scholar and a member of a number of honoraries.

Slack is a junior quarterback who carries a 3.847 grade average in exercise science. He split time at QB with Ohradzansky and completed 45-of-70 passes for 637 yards with five TD's. Slack was fourth in rushing with 268 yards in 67 attempts with four more TD's. After serving as the "wildcat" QB in 2011 and 2012, he had a solid junior season and was the OAC Offensive Player of the Week in BW's season-opening 52-21 win at Bluffton University. The Jacket Scholar and Dean's List student also is a member of numerous honoraries.

Sordyl is a junior running back who carries a 3.763 grade average in film studies. He was second on the team in rushing with 532 yards in 102 attempts with five TD's. Sordyl earned the Dick Miller Family & Community Day Player of the Game award when he ran for 99 yards in 20 attempts in a 23-13 win against Muskingum University. He has 729 career rushing yards in 150 attempts with 13 TD's. Sordyl also is a Dean's List student, Jacket Scholar and member of two academic honoraries.

Wojciechowski is a senior offensive center who carries a 3.824 grade average in early childhood education. He earned the starting job last fall and was a key member of the line for three seasons. Wojciechowski helped BW average nearly 30 points and 370 yards of total offense per game during his career.

Wolfe is a sophomore defensive tackle who carries a 3.611 grade average in accounting.  He earned a starting role midway through this season and had 20 tackles, including 1.5 QB sacks and 3.5 tackles for loss.
