BEREA, OHIO --  A trio of Baldwin Wallace University football student-athletes, junior quarterback Michael Slack (Casselberry, Fla./Pine Castle Christian Academy), senior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference outside linebacker David Flegal (Akron/Revere) and senior All-OAC placekicker Chris Mohler (Kent/Roosevelt), have been named as OAC Football players-of-the-week for their efforts in the Yellow Jackets' 52-21 season-opening victory at Bluffton University last Saturday.

Slack completed 12-of-15 passes for 217 yards and two touchdowns and ran for a game-high 102 yards in his first collegiate start.  He threw TD passes of 36 yards to senior Academic All-OAC wide receiver Gabe Adams (Hudson) in the second quarter and a 39-yarder to junior WR Javon Burks (Naples, Fla./Golden Gate) in the third quarter. He also had a 12-yard TD run in the third stanza. He received the OAC's Offensive Player of the Week honor.

Flegal had a game and career-high 12 tackles, including one for a loss. He has seven solo stops and five assists.  Flegal received the OAC's Defensive Player of the Week accolade.

Mohler made all seven of his point-after-touchdown (PAT) kicks and connected on a 24-yard field goal in his only attempt to score 10 points.  He received the OAC's Special Teams Player of the Week award.

This Saturday, Sept. 21, BW opens its OAC and home schedule against Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University in the 37th Annual Lee Tressel Shrine Classic and in the 25th anniversary of the "Battle for the Cuyahoga Gold Bowl Trophy" on the Tressel Field turf at The George Finnie Stadium at 6:00 p.m.

BW leads the all-time series between the two rivals, 25-23-4, including a 13-11 advantage in the Gold Bowl series.  Last year, BW beat JCU, 32-28, in University Heights with a long touchdown pass with 1:21 left in the game and then held off the Blue Streaks. Ten of the last 11 games have been won by the home team with last year being the only exception.
