BW Football Team Beats Muskingum, 23-13, in Berea

BEREA, Ohio – The  Baldwin Wallace University, football team defeated visiting Muskingum University, 23-13, in an Ohio Athletic Conference game on Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium before 5,355 fans. 
 
The Yellow Jackets led 7-0 after one quarter, 13-0 at halftime and 20-7 after three periods. BW outgained Muskingum, 279-241, including 195-121 on the ground.
 
With its win, BW is 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the OAC and now owns a 42-13-2 all-time series advantage against Muskingum.  With its loss, the Fighting Muskies drop to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the OAC.
 
BW was led on offense by junior quarterbacks Michael Slack (Casselberry, Fla./Pine Castle Christian Academy) and Kyle Ohradzansky (Avon/Canton McKinley), who transferred to BW last winter. Slack completed three-of-four passes for 46 yards and ran four times for 32 yards and a touchdown before leaving the game with an injury in the first quarter. Ohradzansky completed six-of-17 aerials for 38 yards. He also ran for 24 yards in seven attempts. The top receivers were senior wide receiver Kevin Johnson (Maple Heights/St. Ignatius) and senior WR Dan Reed (Knox, Pa./ Keystone) each had three grabs. The running game was led by junior running back Nolan Sordyl (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) with a career-high 99 yards in 20 attempts. Following the game, Sordyl received the Dick Miller BW Most Outstanding Community Day Player of the Game. The defense was led by senior linebacker David Flegal (Akron/Richfield Revere) with 11 tackles.

BW's special teams were…well, special. Senior All-OAC placekicker Chris Mohler (Kent/Roosevelt) booted three field goals and made both of his point-after-touchdown (PAT) kicks for 11 points. Senior punter Matt Harmon (Canfield) averaged 46.1 yards in seven attempts with three landing inside the Muskingum 20-yard line.
 
Offensively for the Fighting Muskies, sophomore QB C.J. Snider completed 15-of-33 for 164 yards with one TD and one interception. He also ran the ball 16 times for eight yards.

Snider's top receiver was sophomore wide receiver Cody Williams who caught seven passes for 66 yards. The top runner was senior RB Shane Dotson who had 35 yards in 14 attempts. The defense was led by junior LB Steven Vinson Jr. with a game-high 12 tackles.
 
The Yellow Jackets opened scoring at the 10:31 mark in the first quarter when Slack ran 17 yards to the endzone and Mohler booted the PAT kick for a 7-0 lead. Slack's run capped a seven-play and 58-yard drive in 2:28.

Mohler extended the lead to 10-0 when he booted his second field goal of the season, a 31-yarder with 13:30 remaining before halftime. The boot capped a six-play and 14-yard possession.

increased BW's advantage to 13-0 at the 5:53 mark when he booted a career-long 38-yarder to cap a seven-play and 20-yard possession.

BW's lead grew to 20-0 at the 12:04 mark of the third stanza when Ohradzansky scampered 21 yards to paydirt and Mohler made his 10th straight PAT kick this season. Ohradzansky's jaunt capped an eight-play and 75-yard drive in 2:56.

Muskingum got on the scoreboard with 50 seconds left in the third period when sophomore linebacker Zach Berry picked off a Ohradzansky pass and returned it 17 yards for the score. Senior PK Caleb Carpenter booted the PAT to close the gap to 20-7.

Mohler
closed out the BW scoring with 1:31 left when he made a 37-yard field goal to give BW a 23-7 lead.

Muskingum closed out the scoring when Snider was flushed from the pocket and threw a 21-yard TD pass to senior WR James Washington on a ball that was deflected and Washington caught off the tip. The Fighting Muskies went for a two-point conversion, but Snider's pass was incomplete. 

Then BW recovered the ensuing onside kick to end matters.
