BW Football Team Beats Marietta, 31-7, for Fourth Straight Win

MARIETTA, Ohio – Sophomore running back Isaac Reed III (Lehigh Acres, Fla/Lehigh) ran for 101 yards in 15 attempts with two touchdowns as the Baldwin Wallace University football team defeated host Marietta College, 31-7, today (Saturday, November 2, 2013) in an Ohio Athletic Conference game at Don Drumm Stadium. The victory was BW's fourth straight.
 
The game was tied 7-7 after one quarter, BW led 14-7 at halftime and 21-7 after three periods. Marietta outgained BW, 360-313, but BW had a decisive 255-165 advantage on the ground.
 
With its win, BW is 6-2 overall, 5-2 in the OAC, has won four straight games and now owns a 31-5 all-time series advantage against the Pioneers, including seven straight wins. With its loss, Marietta drops to 1-7 overall and 1-6 in the OAC.
 
Also for BW, junior quarterback Kyle Ohradzansky (Avon/Canton McKinley) completed 7-of-10 passes for 58 yards and ran for 44 yards and a TD. The top receiver was junior tight end Darryl Jones (Euclid/Villa Angela – St. Joseph) with two grabs for 19 yards. The defense was led by senior Academic All-OAC linebacker David Flegal (Akron/Revere) with a career-high 18 tackles, sophomore safety Jerry Scholle (Medina/Highland) had 11 stops and had a pair of interceptions and senior LB Dan O'Brien (Warren/Howland) with 10 tackles and an interception that he returned for a TD.
 
Offensively for the Pioneers, senior QB Tom Fulton completed 14-of-26 passes for 195 yards with three interceptions. The running game was led by junior RB Tim Connor with 73 yards in 21 attempts with a TD. The top receiver was senior wide receiver Kirby Harris with four grabs for 85 yards. The defense was led by junior LB Cody Rice with 12 tackles.
 
The Yellow Jackets opened scoring and gained a 7-0 lead at the 8:47 mark in the first quarter when Ohradzansky ran 11 yards to the endzone and senior All-OAC placekicker Chris Mohler (Kent/Roosevelt) added the point-after-touchdown (PAT) kick. The run capped a 13-play and 71-yard drive in 6:13.
 
Marietta came right back and drove 73 yards in 14 plays in 5:03 and made it a 7-7 game when junior running back Tim Connor scored from three yards away and freshman PK Garret Butler added the PAT. Connor was the key on the drive as he carried the ball nine times for 35 yards.
 
BW regained the lead at 14-7 with 31 seconds left before halftime when O'Brien intercepted a Fulton pass and ran it back 43 yards for a touchdown. Mohler then added the PAT kick.
 
The Yellow Jacket lead grew to 21-7 at 6:05 of the third quarter when Reed III ran 14 yards to paydirt and Mohler added his third PAT boot. Reed dominated the 7-play and 86-yard drive in 2:40 as he carried the ball six times for 69 yards and the TD.
 
BW increased its lead to 24-7 on the first play of the final stanza, at 14:54, when Mohler nailed a 35-yard field goal. It kept him a perfect 7-for-7 this season. The boot culminated a 6-play and 38-yard drive in 2:32 that came after a failed fourth down-and-one situation at the BW 40-yard line.
 
Reed III scored his second TD at the 9:58 mark on a 4-yard run and Mohler made the PAT kick to make the score 31-7.  The score came after Scholle intercepted his second Fulton pass of the day.
