BALDWIN WALLACE ATHLETICS INFORMATION: As a junior in 2013-14, Nelson Candelario played in his third season of football at Baldwin Wallace University and earned his first varsity letter.

ATHLETICS HONORS:   As a junior in 2013-2014, Nelson was named as the 36th Lee Tressel Shrine Classic BW PLayer of the Game (Sept. 21, 2013 versus John Carroll University).

GENERAL FOOTBALL INFORMATION:   In his first three seasons as a Yellow Jacket, Nelson has helped BW to a 21-9  record.

As a freshman in 2011-2012, Nelson competed in his first season of football and earned his first varsity letter. Nelson appeared in five varsity games as a defensive back and recorded one tackle. BW finished 8-2 overall and was ranked 24th in the final AFCA (American Football Coaches Association) Division III poll.

As a sophomore in 2012-2013, Nelson played his second season of football.  He split time between the varsity and junior varsity teams as a cornerback and earned a certificate of participation.  BW finished 7-3 overall.

As a junior in 2013-2014, Nelson played in his third season of football and earned his second letter. He started at cornerback on defense and made 44 total tackles, including two for loss, intercepted a pass and returned it 89 yards for a touchdown in a 54-7 win at Wilmington College on October 19. He also had a team-leading nine pass breakups.  Nelson was named as the Shriners' Player of the Game for his efforts against John Carroll University on September 21. BW finished 6-4 overall.

HOMETOWN & HIGH SCHOOL INFORMATION: Nelson grew up in Cape Coral, Florida and attended Island Coast High School. He played four years of football and earned three varsity letters. He also ran one season of track and earned a varsity letter.

In football as a senior, Nelson was an All-Area first-team defensive back.

Academically, Nelson was a National Scholar Athlete Award winner in 2011 and the Student of the Year in 2007.
