BW Women Place Second at OAC Track Championships

ALLIANCE, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's track and field team finished second today (Saturday, April 30, 2011) at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championship Meet at the University of Mount Union. Highlighting the day for BW was the selection of senior three-time Division III All-American Kim Chinn (Zanesville/ West Muskingum) as the Dave Lehman Most Outstanding Distance Runner for the second straight year.

Chinn earned her award by winning individual OAC championships in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, 800-meter run and 5,000-meter run and anchoring Friday's winning 4x800-meter relay team.  She won the 3,000 steeplechase with an NCAA national automatic qualifying time of 10:42.27, the 800 meters with a season's-best time of 2:16.17 and the 5,000 with a time of 17:56.13. The relay team won in 9:30.88 (see more below). Chinn is currently qualified for the NCAA national meet in the 3,000 steeple, 5,000 and 10,000.


In addition and earning All-OAC honors were senior decathlete Emily Oliver (Waynesburg/ Sandy Valley) placing second in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.08 seconds and 400-meter intermediate hurdles in 1:04.85; sophomore sprinter Kaylan Lemon (Canton/ Perry) placing second in the 200-meter dash in 26.21 seconds; sophomore Cristina Perrine (Middleburg Hts./ Midpark) placing second in the shot put with a throw of 40'6" and third in the hammer at 139'1"; junior Leslie Pernell (Springfield/ Catholic Central) placing third in the hammer with a career-best throw of 143'6"; sophomore Sarah Rospert (Milan/Edison) placing third in the 5000 meters in 18:12.87; and freshman sprinter Nicole Smith (Geneva) placing fourth in the 400-meter dash in 59.17 seconds.

All-OAC performers from the first day were the 4x800 relay team of Chinn, freshman Jamie Clapacs (Willoughby Hills/South), sophomore Tess Hoogeveen (Westerville/South) and senior Krysten Kovach (North Royalton/Parma Padua); and Oliver placing fourth in the long jump with a leap of 16'11.50".

Next week, select Yellow Jacket individuals will compete at the University of Toledo Rocket Invitational on Friday, May 6, at the Allegheny (Pa.) University Gator Invitational on May 13 and at the North Central (Ill.) University "Last Chance" Meet from May 17-20 prior to the national qualifiers competing at the 2011 NCAA Division III National Championship Meet at Ohio Wesleyan University from May 26-28.
