Emily Oliver Places Third at NCAA Meet to Become BW's First Ever All-American in Pentathlon

COLUMBUS, OHIO -- Baldwin Wallace University senior Emily Oliver (Waynesburg/Sandy Valley) became the first athlete in school history to earn All-American status in the pentathlon after placing third in the event on day one (Friday, March 11) of the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Capital University.

Oliver earned All-America honors for the first time in her career. She re-set her own school record with 3,411 points and set personal bests in four of the five events. She also became the first BW woman to earn indoor All-America honors since Kara Weaver in the long jump in 2005. WIth her six points, Oliver put BW in a tie for 10th place as a team.

Oliver started off the day with a second place finish among the pentathletes in the 55-meter hurdles with a career-best time of 8.62 seconds. In high jump, Oliver cleared 4 feet, 11 and three quarter inches, good for ninth place.  Oliver then took first place in the shot put, throwing a career-best 34'2.25". In the fourth event of the day, the long jump, she finished seventh with a personal-best leap of 16'10.5". In the final event of the day, Oliver ran a time of 2:24.89 in the 800-meter run, also a career-best, to finish sixth in that event.

In addition, senior track and cross country All-American Kim Chinn (Zanesville/West Muskingum) ran in the preliminary rounds of the one mile run and qualified for tomorrow's final. Chinn finished fifth in her heat in a time of 5:00.36. Tomorrow, she will attempt to become the first woman in BW indoor track history to earn All-America accolades in the mile.

Chinn is back in action tomorrow (Saturday, March 12) in the one mile run final at 4:45 p.m.
