LYNCHBURG, VIRGINIA --  Senior Division III All-American Emily Oliver (Waynesburg/ Sandy Valley) ranked third in the heptathlon after the first day of the two-day Liberty (Va.) University Collegiate Invitational.

After three of seven total events in the heptathlon, Oliver was also ranked the top Division III heptathlete with 2,655 points. She placed eighth in the 200-meter dash with a career-best time of 26.50 seconds (754 points), third in the 100-meter hurdles with a career-best time of 15.46 seconds (782 pts.), third in the shot put with a career-best outdoor throw of 32' 4.25" (520 pts.) and was tied for eighth in the high jump at 4'10.25" (599 pts.).  The final three events take place today.  

A year ago, Oliver was a provisional qualifier for the 2010 NCAA national meet in the heptathlon, but did not make the final cut.

The rest of the Yellow Jacket women's team is in Alliance, Ohio today to compete at the annual Ohio Athletic Conference East Meet at the University of Mount Union.  The first event was to begin at 11:00 a.m. This past winter, the Yellow Jacket women won the 2011 OAC and All-Ohio titles and had an unbeaten indoor season, winning all five scored meet and compiling a 45-0 record.

Next Saturday, April 9, the BW women travel to Delaware, Ohio to compete at the annual Ohio Wesleyan University Marv Frye Invitational Meet. Field events begin at 11:00 a.m.  The 2011 NCAA Division III National Championship Meet takes place at OWU from May 26-28.  A year ago, it was in Berea and the year prior at OAC-member Marietta College.
