Oliver Qualifies for National Meet in Heptathlon at the Wake Forest Deacon Combined Events Meet

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Baldwin Wallace University senior NCAA Division III All-American pentathlete Emily Oliver (Waynesburg/ Sandy Valley) scored a career-best 4,487 points in the seven-event heptathlon today (Wednesday, May 11) at the Wake Forest University Combined Events Meet in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Oliver's effort qualified her provisionally for the 2011 NCAA Division III National Championship Meet from May 26-28.

Oliver, who provisionally qualified for last year's national meet with 4,288 points but did not make the final cut, placed seventh overall and put herself in good position to qualify this year. She placed sixth in the high jump with a mark of five-feet and one-half inches for 666 points, seventh in the shot put with a toss of 32'10.25" (530 pts.), ninth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.33 (799 pts.), tenth in the 200-meter dash in a time of 26.48 (756 pts.), tenth in the long jump with a leap of 16'11" (603 pts.), 15th in the javelin with a throw of 75'2.5" and fourth in the 800-meter run in a career-best 2:22.50 (790 pts.).
 
In addition, other members of the outdoor track and field team will travel to Meadville, Pennsylvania this Friday, May 13 to compete in the annual Allegheny College Gator Invitational. The final "last chance" meets take place from May 17-20 at either North Central College or Augustana College in the Chicago, Illinois area.  The 2011 NCAA Division III National Championship Meet at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio is on May 26-28.
