NAPERVILLE, ILL. --  Select Baldwin Wallace University individual performers competed on Friday, May 19 at the North Central College Gregory Track and Field Invitational. The first of two straight "last chance" meets for those performers hoping to qualify for the 2011 NCAA Division III National Championship Meet at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio from May 26-28.  To date, BW has two women qualifiers either automatic or provisional.

Leading the way for the women, sophomore Cristina Perrine (Middleburg Heights/ Midpark) threw a distance of 117'1" in the discus while junior teammate Leslie Purnell (Springfield/Catholic Central) posted a mark of 110'4" as they placed 12th and 15th, respectively. Perrine also competed in the hammer throw finishing in 11th place as she threw a distance of 138'11".

The 2011 regular season ended at the April 29-30 Ohio Athletic Conference Championship Meet when both the BW men and women placed second of 10 schools.

To date, BW has two women NCAA Division III national qualifiers while a number of others are close to qualifying and will get one more chance today at Augustana. One has met the NCAA's automatic qualifying standard while the other has met the provisional standard.

The two women to date are senior three-time All-American cross country and track standout Kim Chinn (Zanesville/ West Muskingum) and senior All-American pentathlete Emily Oliver (Waynesburg/ Sandy Valley). Chinn is qualified automatically in the 3000-meter steeplechase in a school-record and automatic qualifying time of 10:30.74, the 5000-meter run in 17:33.2 and in the 10,000-meter run in 37:15.78. Oliver provisionally qualified in the heptatholon two weeks ago at the Wake Forest (N.C.) University Deacon Combined Events Meet.

A year ago, Chinn earned All-America honors when BW hosted the 2010 NCAA national meet at The George Finnie Stadium.

The Yellow Jacket qualifying hopefuls are back in action today when Purnell and Perrine throw at Augustana.
