BW's Perrine Fails to Qualify for Discus Finals at NCAA National Track Meet

DELAWARE, OHIO --  Baldwin Wallace University sophomore discus thrower Cristina Perrine (Middleburg Heights/ Midpark) ended a strong track and field season today (Saturday, May 28) when she competed and placed 23rd in the discus at the 2011 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championship Meet at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio.

Perrine, competing at her first national meet, fouled twice and sandwiched a throw of 117-feet. Perrine entered the meet ranked 16th with a career-best throw of 147'11" at the Augustana (Ill.) College Twilight Meet last weekend.

Highlighting BW's efforts at this national meet has been senior distance sensation Kim Chinn (Zanesville/ West Muskingum), who won the national title last night in the 3,000-meter steeplechase for her fourth career All-American award.  Senior All-American pentathlete Emily Oliver (Waynesburg/ Sandy Valley) placed 12th of 22 competitors in the 7-event heptathlon.

"We qualified five individuals to the national meet and four are taking home four All-American awards," said veteran Yellow Jacket Head Coach Bill Taraschke.  "We had a national champion and two fourth place finishes. Overall, I am quite pleased with the effort and results.

"We lose three outstanding senior national competitors in Kim Chinn, Kevin Phipps and Emily Oliver, and I couldn't be more proud of each of them," continued Taraschke. "They are the reason for Division III athletics. Each one is an outstanding student, team-leader and student-athlete. Their leadership and talent will be sorely missed.

"In terms of Mitch and Cristina, we will return two national qualifiers and an All-American in Mitch," said Taraschke. "They will be two of our more prominent leaders next year. Each of them had a strong sophomore season and we look forward to working with them in 2011-12."
