BW Women's Outdoor Track & Field Team Competes at Allegheny (Pa.) Gator Invite

MEADVILLE, PA. -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's outdoor track & field team competed at the unscored Allegheny College (Pa.) Gator Invitational Meet today (Friday, May 13, 2011) in Meadville, Pennsylvania. The meet is utilized as a "last chance" meet for athletes to hit or better their national qualifying marks.

Senior three-time All-American Kim Chinn (Zanesville/West Muskingum) was second in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 17:45.87. She is automatically qualified for the NCAA Meet in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:30.74) and provisionally qualified in the 5,000-meter run (17:33.12) and 10,000-meter run (37:15.78). Sophomore Sarah Rospert (Milan/Edison) was eighth in the 5K, crossing the finish line in 18:41.42.

Junior Leslie Purnell (Springfield/Catholic Central) was fifth in the shot put with a best throw of 39'5". She was also seventh in the discus (128'10") and eighth in the hammer (140'6"). Sophomore Stephanie Shockley (Tiffin/Columbian) was seventh in the pole vault, clearing 10'2".  Sophomore Cristina Perrine (Middleburg Heights/Midpark) was ninth in the discus at 117'11".

The final "last chance" meets take place next week from May 17-20 at either North Central College or Augustana College in the Chicago, Illinois area.  The 2011 NCAA Division III National Championship Meet at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio is on May 26-28.
