ALLIANCE, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's track and field team placed first and at the annual Ohio Athletic Conference East Meet at Mount Union Stadium in Alliance. This is the fourth week of spring competition for the Yellow Jackets.
The meet consisted of BW, host University of Mount Union, John Carroll University, Marietta College and Muskingum University. The Yellow Jackets scored 189 points, nine points clear of second place Mount Union.
Leading the way was senior All-American Kim Chinn (Zanesville/West Muskingum) who won the 800-meter and 1500-meter runs season-best times of 2:22.69 and 4:44.90, respectively. Chinn also combined with sophomore Lauren McGaughey (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton), sophomore Tess Hoogeveen (Westerville/South) and senior Krysten Kovach (North Royalton/Padua Franciscan) to win the 4x800-meter relay in a time of 10:00.81.
Freshman Nicole Smith (Geneva) won the 400-meter dash in 59.46 and was second in the 200-meter dash in 27.38. Sophomore Brittany Sterling (Lima/Senior) won the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:10.63 and sophomore Sarah Rospert (Milan/Edison) won the 5,000-meter run in 18:14.17. In the women's hammer throw, sophomore Cristina Perrine (Middleburg Heights/Midpark) and junior Leslie Purnell (Springfield/Catholic Central) led the way with a 1-2 finish. Perrine won with a toss of 141 feet, eight inches and Purnell followed at 122'8". Perrine was second in the shot put (40'9") and Purnell was third (39'8")
The Yellow Jackets were without senior All-American pentathlete Emily Oliver (Waynesburg/Sandy Valley), who competed at the Liberty University Collegiate Meet in Lynchburg, Virginia.
The Yellow Jackets return to action next Saturday (April 9) when they travel to Delaware, Ohio to compete in the Ohio Wesleyan University Marv Frye Invitational.
