DELAWARE, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's outdoor track and field team claimed the team title today (Saturday, April 9, 2011) at the 14-team Ohio Wesleyan University Marv Frye Invitational Meet in Delaware, Ohio. This is the fourth overall and second scored team meet of the outdoor season.
The Yellow Jackets totalled 111.50 points and outdistanced second place Case Western Reserve University by 12.25 points. The meet title was the second in two outdoor meets (17-0 record) and combined with their five indoor meet crowns (45-0 record), the team has a seven-meet winning streak.
Senior 3-time Division III All-Amrican Kim Chinn (Zanesville/ West Muskingum) won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:30.74 to break the OWU Stadium record and automatically qualify for this spring's NCAA Division III National Championship Meet from May 26-28, and ironically at OWU. Her time also was 0.21 seconds shy of her own school record. In addition, Chinn joined freshman Nicole Smith (Geneva), sophomore Brittany Sterling (Lima) and freshman Jamie Clapacs (Willoughby Hills/ South) on the second place 4 x 400-meter relay team in 4:05.54.
In addition to Chinn, senior heptathlete Emily Oliver (Waynesburg/ Sandy Valley) won the 400-meter hurdles in a season's-best time of 1:05.53. Placing second were Clapacs in the 800-meter run in a season's-best time of 2:19.20, the 4x400 relay squad and sophomore thrower Cristina Perrine (Middleburg Heights/ Midpark) in the hammer with a season's-best throw of 150-feet and 10-inches. Placing third were Smith in the 400-meter dash with a season's-best time of 59.19 seconds, Perrine in the shot put with a season's-best throw of 41'1.5" and senior Erin Norton (Lakewood/ Senior) in the hammer with a season's-best throw of 143'5".
The Yellow Jackets are back in action this Saturday, April 16 when they travel back to Delaware and OWU to compete at the annual All-Ohio Division III Championship Meet. The meet begins at 11:00 a.m.
