Kim Chinn Places Sixth in One Mile Run at NCAA Meet to Become Three-Time All-American

COLUMBUS, OHIO -- Baldwin Wallace University senior Kim Chinn (Zanesville/West Muskingum) became the first athlete in school history to earn All-American status in the one mile run after placing sixth in the event on day two (Saturday, March 12) of the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Capital University.

Chinn earned All-America honors for the third time in her career. With today's sixth place finish in the mile, she also becomes the first athlete (male or female) in BW history to be an All-American in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track. Chinn was national runner-up in the 3,000-meter steeplechase last May in outdoor track and finished 13th at this past fall's NCAA Division III cross country meet.

Chinn finished today's race in a time of 5:00.77, which was very close to her time of 5:00.36 in yesterday's preliminary heat. She owns the indoor school-record in the mile (4:58.79) and 1,000-meter run (3:02.52) and in the outdoor steeplechase (10:30.53).

Chinn also joins fellow senior Emily Oliver (Waynesburg/Sandy Valley) as an All-American for the 2010-11 indoor track season. Oliver finished third in yesterday's pentathlon with a school-record 3,411 points. Both women helped BW place tied for 24th as a team with nine points.

Chinn
will now shift gears to outdoor track & field as she will join the rest of the BW track & field team next weekend (Friday and Saturday, March 18-19) at the UNC-Charlotte 49er Classic.
