Oliver in Sixth Place After Day One of Deacon Combined Events

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Division III All-American pentathlete Emily Oliver (Waynesburg/ Sandy Valley) is the only BW women's track and field athlete that competed in the first day of the Wake Forest (N.C.) University Demon Deacon Combined Events meet on Tuesday, May 10.

After four of seven total events in the heptathlon, Oliver stands in sixth place and is the top Division III heptathlete with a total of 2,751.  She placed sixth in the high jump with a mark of 5'0.5" (666 pts), seventh in the shot put with a toss of 32'10.25" (530 pts), ninth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.33 seconds (799 pts) and 10th in the 200-meter dash in a time of 26.48 seconds (756 pts). Oliver will compete in the long jump, the javelin and 800-meter run in the second and final day.

In addition, other members of the outdoor track and field team will travel to Meadville, Pennsylvania this Friday, May 13 to compete in the annual Allegheny College Gator Invitational. The final "last chance" meets take place from May 17-20 at either North Central College or Augustana College in the Chicago, Illinois area.  The 2011 NCAA Division III National Championship Meet at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio is on May 26-28.
