BW Senior Emily Oliver Stands 10th After First Day of NCAA Heptathlon Championship

DELAWARE, OHIO --  Baldwin Wallace University senior All-American pentathlete Emily Oliver (Waynesburg/ Sandy Valley) stands 10th of 22 competitors today (Thursday, May 26) after the first of the two-day and seven-event heptathlon at the 2011 NCAA Division III National Track & Field Championship Meet at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio.

Oliver, who earned All-American accolades this winter with a third place finish in the five-event pentathlon at the 20011 NCAA Division III National Indoor Championship Meet at Capital University in March and placed 15th in the heptathlon at last year's NCAA Outdoor Championship Meet at BW, scored 2,754 points.

She placed sixth in the 100-meter hurdles with a career-best time of 14.99 seconds for 843 points, 10th in the high jump with a leap of five-feet and one-half inch for 666 points, 13th in the shot put with a throw of 32'4.24" for 520 points and was 18th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.84 for 725 points.

Tomorrow (Friday, May 27), Oliver will compete in the final three events, including the long jump, javelin and 800-meter run. Oliver set a career-best of 4,487 points on May 10-11 at the Wake Forest University Deacon Combined Events Meet in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

In addition to being an outstanding pentathlete/ heptathlete, Oliver, a chemistry major, is an Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference and CAPITAL ONE Academic All-District IV student-athlete who carried a better than 3.5 grade average.

In addition to Oliver today, three-time All-American distance runner Kim Chinn (Zanesville/ West Muskingum) is competing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and sophomore Cristina Perrine (Middleburg Heights/Midpark) is competing in the discuss.  BW has more individual competitors at the national meet than any other Ohio Div. III school.
