BW Outdoor Track & Field Teams Begin Season at Coastal Carolina (S.C.) Invitational

CONWAY, S.C. - The Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams ended its week of spring break by competing at the unscored Coastal Carolina University Invitational Meet in Conway, South Carolina on Friday and Saturday, March 11-12.

The Yellow Jackets spent the early part of this week training in Florida and will compete next weekend (March 18-19) at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte 49er Classic in another unscored meet. The first scored outdoor meet is on Saturday, April 2 when BW travels to the University of Mount Union to compete in the OAC Split Meet.

Highlighting the weekend for the men was junior Miles Moore (Gettysburg, Pa./Delone Catholic) who finished second in the shot put and hit the NCAA provisional qualifying standard with a career-best throw of 52 feet, three and one quarter inches.Moore also finished 14th in the hammer (127'10") and discus throws (131'4").

For the women, sophomore Sarah Rospert (Milan/ Edison) placed fifth in the 10,000-meter run finishing in a time of 39:16.64. Also in the 10K, sophomore Shaina Kovatch (Parma/ Valley Forge) placed sixth behindRospert with a time of 40:06.76 and junior Judy Patterson (Aliquippa, Pa./ Monaca Center) was seventh in a time of 40:54.32.

Freshman Brooke Hradisky (Aurora) was seventh in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:20.71 and freshmanJamie Clapacs (Willoughby Hills/Willoughby South) was 12th in the 800, finishing in 2:22.53. In the 5,000-meters, sophomore Lauren McGaughey (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) crossed the line seventh in 19:12.53 and freshman Lauren Hutka (North Ridgeville/Midview) was ninth in 19:27.20. Freshman Blair Vrcan (Mentor) was seventh in the 3000-meter steeplechase in a time of 12:56.09 and freshman Krista Wharton (Cincinnati/Colerain) tied for 13th in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 15.65.

In the men's running events, junior Zach Szablewski (Tiffin/ Calvert) placed third in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 33:15.24 and junior Mike Sisko (Olmsted Falls) placed eighth in the 10K in a time of 36:02.38. Junior Drew Beck (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy) was seventh in the 3000-meter steeplechase in a time of 10:00.55.

Freshman Shawn Cordes (Litchfield/Medina Buckeye) led the men's sprinters with a 15th place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.61. Cordes also combined with junior Mike Smith (Wintersville/Indian Creek), sophomore Tedario Cassel (Garfield Heights/St. Peter Chanel) and freshman Kevin Johnson (Garfield Heights/St. Ignatius) to place sixth in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 43.14.
