Baldwin Wallace Men Stand in First After First Day of OAC Championship Meet

ALLIANCE, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's track and field team stands in first place (Friday, April 29, 2011) after the first of the two-day Ohio Athletic Conference Championship Meet at the University of Mount Union in Alliance, Ohio.  The final day is tomorrow and action begins at 10:00 a.m.

The Yellow Jacket men totalled 53 points to stand first after 12 events. The University of Mount Union stands in second place and trails BW by nine points. The men were led by sophomore discus thrower Mitch Supan (Medina/ Walsh Jesuit)Supan led a 1-2-3-6 Yellow Jacket finish in the discus as he broke teammate and senior Kevin Phipps' (Patsakala/ Watkins Memorial) school-record by nine inches with a throw of 174-feet and eight inches. His throw also was an NCAA Division III national automatic qualifying throw.

In addition to Supan in the discus, senior Matt Kromer (Parma/ Senior) and Phipps each earned All-OAC honors by placing second and third with throws of 164"7' and 162"7', respectively. Both were NCAA provisional national qualifying tosses. Sophomore Zach Marinucci (Brunswick) placed sixth. Sophomore Jake Buckey (Geneva) placed second in the javelin with a throw of 166"6' to earn All-OAC accolades. In the pole vault, freshman Brandon Eddy (Cuyahoga Heights) placed third with a vault of 14"7.25' to earn All-OAC accolades as well. Leading the way for the runners was sophomore Zachary Szablewski (Tiffin/Calvert) as he earn All-OAC honors placing fourth in the 10,000 meter run crossing the finish line in a time of 32:20.

Following the OAC Track Meet, select Yellow Jacket individuals will compete at the University of Toledo Rocket Invitational on Friday, May 6, at the Allegheny (Pa.) University Gator Invitational on May 13 and at the North Central (Ill.) University "Last Chance" Meet from May 17-20 prior to the national qualifiers competing at the 2011 NCAA Division III National Championship Meet at Ohio Wesleyan University from May 26-28.
