BW Duo Places 14th and 17th in Shot Put at NCAA Division III National Track Meet

DELAWARE, OHIO -- Baldwin Wallace University senior track and field sensation and five-time NCAA Division III All-American Kevin Phipps (Patsakala/ Watkins Memorial) placed 14th and sophomore All-American Mitch Supan (Medina/ Walsh Jesuit) was 17th today (Friday, May 27) on the second of the three-day 2011 NCAA Division III National Track & Field Championship Meet at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware , Ohio. Phipps, who placed fourth in the hammer yesterday (May 26) to earn his fifth All-American award, and Supan also compete tomorrow in the discus.

Phipps had a best throw of 51-feet and nine-inches andSupan's best toss was at 50'8.75". Phipps entered the shot put competition ranked 16th with a season-best throw of 53'8.5" while Supan was ranked 17th at 53'6.25".

Entering tomorrow's discus competition, Phipps is ranked fifth nationally with a season-best toss of 174'2". He is one spot back of Supan, who is ranked fourth with a BW school-record of 174'8".

This spring, he was tabbed as BW's Senior Male Outstanding Athlete recipient -- the Kenneth Steingass Award. Phipps also was a solid student and leader on campus. He graduated with a better than 3.0 grade point average, was the team captain for both football and track and earned All-OAC accolades on the gridiron as a defensive tackle.
