ALLIANCE, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University men were second at the annual Ohio Athletic Conference East Meet at Mount Union Stadium in Alliance. This is the fourth week of spring competition for the Yellow Jackets.
For the men, sophomore All-American Mitch Supan (Medina/Walsh Jesuit) won the shot put and hammer throws with NCAA provisional qualifying throws of 51"4.25' and 176"2', respectively. Supan also won the discus with a throw of 166"5'. Junior Miles Moore (Gettysburg, Pa./Delone Catholic) was second behind Supan in the shot put with a throw of 51"2.25'.
In the running events, junior Drew Beck (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy) won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 9:49.18. Freshman Shawn Cordes (Litchfield/Medina Buckeye) won the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.48 and combined with junior Mike Smith (Wintersville/Indian Creek), junior Dan Sloat (Medina/Senior) and freshman Kevin Johnson (Garfield Heights/St. Ignatius) to win the 4x100-meter relay in 43.51.
The Yellow Jackets were without senior four-time All-American Kevin Phipps (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial), senior All-American pentathlete Emily Oliver (Waynesburg/Sandy Valley) and freshman multi-event athletes Brandon Eddy (Cuyahoga Heights) and Josh Price (North Olmsted), who all competed at the Liberty University Collegiate Meet in Lynchburg, Virginia.
The Yellow Jackets return to action next Saturday (April 9) when they travel to Delaware, Ohio to compete in the Ohio Wesleyan University Marv Frye Invitational.
