BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's outdoor track and field team competed today (Saturday, April 23) as it hosted the unscored Sparky Adams Invitational at The George Finnie Stadium.  The meet consisted of athletes from 32 NCAA Division I, II and III schools as well as NAIA institutions.

Four Baldwin Wallace student-athletes won individual titles on their home track.

Highlighting the meet for the men was senior four-time All-American thrower Kevin Phipps (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial) as a double-winner.  Phipps won the men's hammer throw with an NCAA automatic qualifying toss of 195 feet, seven inches. His best in the hammer this year is 198"5'.

Phipps also won the men's discus throw with a toss of 162"9'. He is already automatically qualified in the discus at 174"0'. Phipps finished second in the shot put with a season-best heave of 52"10.75'. That throw improves his NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the shot.
Freshman Brandon Eddy (Cuyahoga Heights) won the pole vault with a personal best clearance of 15"9.25'. Eddy's mark also improves his NCAA provisional qualifying mark for the 2011 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio from May 26-28.

Sophomore All-American Mitch Supan (Medina/Walsh Jesuit) placed third in men's discus with a hurl of 153"11'. Supan's best in the discus this year is 171'7', which is a strong NCAA provisional mark.

The Yellow Jackets return to action next Friday and Saturday, April 29 and 30, at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championship Meet at the University of Mount Union in Alliance, Ohio.
