Baldwin Wallace University Outdoor Track & Field Team Compete at Allegheny (Pa.) Gator Invite

MEADVILLE, PA. -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's outdoor track & field team competed at the unscored Allegheny College (Pa.) Gator Invitational Meet today (Friday, May 13, 2011) in Meadville, Pennsylvania. The meet is utilized as a "last chance" meet for athletes to hit or better their national qualifying marks.

For the men, senior four-time All-American thrower Kevin Phipps (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial) won the hammer throw, discus throw and shot put with marks of 192 feet, two inches, 164"5' and 52"8.25', respectively. Phipps' hammer mark re-set his own stadium record at Allegheny. He is already automatically qualified in the hammer (school-record 198"5') and discus (174"0') and provisionally qualified in the shot put (53"8.5') for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field National Championship Meet.

Sophomore All-American Mitch Supan (Medina/Walsh Jesuit) was fourth in the hammer (170"11'). Supan is already automatically qualified in the discus (school-record 174"8') and provisionally qualified in the shot put (53"6.25') and hammer (176"2'). Also, senior Matt Kromer (Parma/Senior) was fifth in the discus (149"7') and is also provisionally qualified that event (164"7').

In the shot put, sophomore Zach Marinucci (Brunswick) was third at 50"6' and junior Miles Moore (Gettysburg, Pa./Delone Catholic) was fifth at 50�4�. Both men are also provisionally qualified in the shot put. Sophomore Jake Buckey (Geneva) was eighth in the javelin at 162"11'.

The final "last chance" meets take place next week from May 17-20 at either North Central College or Augustana College in the Chicago, Illinois area.  The 2011 NCAA Division III National Championship Meet at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio is on May 26-28.
