WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Two Baldwin Wallace men compete at the Wake Forest University Combined Events Meet today (Tuesday, May 11) on the second day of competetion.
Yellow Jacket freshman Brandon Eddy (Cuyahoga Heights) scored a career-best 5,998 points in the 10-event decathlon and narrowly missed qualifying for the national meet by 52 points. Eddy is already qualified individually in the pole vault. Joining Eddy at Wake was fellow freshman Josh Price (North Olmsted) who scored 4,793 points.
Eddy and Price were the only Division III student-athletes in the 22-competitor pool. Eddy placed eighth and Price was 15th.
Eddy took eighth in the high jump with a leap of 6"1.25' (679 pts.), 18th in the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.99 (653 pts.), 13th in the long jump with a distance of 20" 1.75' (617 pts.), 16th in the 400-meter dash in a time of 53.89 (644 pts.), 18th in the shot put with a throw of 32" 5'(478 pts), 11th in the 110-meter high hurdles in 15.97 seconds (736 pts.), 14th in the discus with a throw of 100"5' (477 pts.), fourth in the pole vault with a vault of 14"6' (737 pts.), 11th in the javelin with a throw of 140"7' (484 pts.) and 13th in the 1500-meter run with a time of 5:11.91.
Price was 12th in the high jump with a jump of 5"8.5' (602 pts.), 14th in the shot put with a throw of 35"11.5' (543 pts.), 15th in the 400-meter dash in a time of 53.43 (663 pts.), 16th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.82 (687 pts.), ninth in the 110-meter high hurdles in 15.54 seconds (785 pts.), 11th in the discus with a throw of 106"1' (511 pts.), ninth in the javelin with a throw of 143"5' and 11th in the 1500 meters in 5:09.59. He did not mark in the long jump or pole vault.
In addition, other members of the outdoor track and field team will travel to Meadville, Pennsylvania this Friday, May 13 to compete in the annual Allegheny College Gator Invitational. The final "last chance" meets take place from May 17-20 at either North Central College or Augustana College in the Chicago, Illinois area. The 2011 NCAA Division III National Championship Meet at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio is on May 26-28.
