BW's Men's Indoor Track and Field Team Place First at the OAC Relay Meet at Capital

BEXLEY, OHIO --  The Baldwin Wallace University men indoor track and field team placed first at the annual Ohio Athletic Conference Relay Meet today (Saturday, January 29, 2011) in the Capital Center at host Capital University in Columbus.  This was the second week of winter competition. The men scored 90 points and the women scored 106.50 to win the meet.

For the men, senior 4-time NCAA Division III All-American thrower Kevin Phipps (Pataskala/ Watkins Memorial) won the weight throw with a distance of 56"4.00' beating his previous mark from a week ago when he provisionally qualified for the 2011 NCAA Div. III national meet. Phipps and sophomore thrower Mitch Supan (Medina/ Walsh Jesuit) combined to win shot put relay with a distance of 100"7.25' despite placing second and third overall. Freshman Brandon Eddy (Cuyahoga Heights) won the pole vault at 15"5' and also hit the NCAA provisional qualifying standard.

The BW track and field teams will be back in action next Saturday, February 5 when the Yellow Jackets travel to Alliance to compete at the Jim Wuske Invitational Meet at the University of Mount Union in the McPherson Academic & Athletic Complex at 11:00 p.m. The next BW home indoor track and field meet is Friday, February 11 when BW hosts the Mid-February Meet at 5:00 p.m. In addition, BW is the host school for the 2011 OAC Indoor Track & Field Championships on February 25-26.  For more information on the OAC Championships, fans can log on to the championship website at  http://www.bw.edu/athletics/11oacitfchampionships/
