BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's indoor track and field team opened its 2011 season with team title tonight (Friday, January 21) at the BW Mid-January Meet on the Harrison Dillard Track in the Lou Higgins Center in Berea. The BW men finished first with 208 points.
For the men, senior 4-time NCAA Division III All-American thrower Kevin Phipps (Pataskala/ Watkins Memorial) won the weight throw with a 2011 NCAA Div. III national meet provisional qualifying mark of 55"10.25'. Phipps also won the shot put with an NCAA qualifying provisional mark of 54"4'. Freshman Brandon Eddy (Cuyahoga Heights) was a double-winner as he won the high jump with a leap of 6"5.5' and the pole vault at 15-feet. The 4 x 200-meter relay team of freshman Josiah Holt (Elyria/ Grafton Midview),sophomore Aaron Manders (Toledo/ Cardinal Stritch), freshman Shawn Cordes (Litchfield/ Medina Buckeye) and freshman Kevin Johnson (Garfield Heights/ Cleveland St. Ignatius) was victorious in 1:35.13.
The BW track and field teams will be back in action next Saturday, January 29 when they travel to Columbus to participate in the Ohio Athletic Conference Relays hosted by Capital University. The meet is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m.
The next BW home indoor track and field meet is Friday, February 11 when BW hosts the Mid-February Meet at 5:00 p.m. In addition, BW is the host school for the 2011 OAC Indoor Track & Field Championships on February 25-26.
