Yellow Jacket Men Finish Second at Division III All-Ohio Indoor Track & Field Meet

GAMBIER, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's indoor track and field teams competed at the 2011 Division III All-Ohio Meet hosted by Kenyon College at the Kenyon Athletic Center in Gambier. The Yellow Jacket men were second of 19 teams.

The men were led by four-time All-American Kevin Phipps (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial), who won the shot put with a throw of 55"10.5' and the weight throw at 62"1.25'. Sophomore Mitch Supan (Medina/Walsh Jesuit) provisionally qualified for the national meet in both events as he finished second to Phipps in the weight throw (57'9.75') and shot put (51"3'). In addition, sophomore Zach Marinucci (Brunswick)finished third in the shot put, throwing 49"11.25'.  Freshman Brandon Eddy (Cuyahoga Heights) won the pole vault, clearing 15"5'.

In the 55-meter dash freshman sprinter Kevin Johnson (Garfield Heights/ St. Ignatius) finished in fourth with a time of 6.58 seconds. Johnson then combined with junior Mike Smith (Wintersville/ Indian Creek),freshman Shawn Cordes (Litchfield/ Medina Buckeye) and freshman Josiah Holt (Eylria/ Midview) to place fifth in the 4x200 meter relay in a time of 1:33.05. Sophomore distance runner Ken Janosko (Mentor) placed fourth the 5,000 meter run as he crossed the finish line in a time of 15:19.32.

The next BW home indoor track and field meet is Friday, February 18 when BW hosts the Greater Cleveland Championships at 5:00 p.m. BW will also compete at the Kent State Invite on Saturday, February 19.
