FINDLAY, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace men's throwers competed at the University of Findlay Open Meet on Friday, February 4 which comprised of athletes from Division I, II and III. The Yellow Jacket throwers were led by senior four-time NCAA Division III All-American thrower Kevin Phipps (Pataskala/ Watkins Memorial) with two school records.
Phipps placed fourth in the weight throw with a distance of 62'3.25" and placed fifth in the shot put throwing a distance of 56"1'. Both marks not only automatically qualified him for the 2011 NCAA Division III national meet but also set the Baldwin Wallace record in both events. In the shot put, Phipps broke Greg Patrick's mark of 55"0.25' set just last year. He reset his own record in the weight throw which was 61'1.25, also set last year. In addition, Phipps' mark in the shot put currently ranks as the best throw in Division III this season.
In addition to Phipps, sophomore outdoor All-American Mitch Supan (Medina/ Walsh Jesuit) placed seventh in the weight throw and 13th in the shot put with throws of 55"0.07' and 49"0.75', respectively.
The Yellow Jacket throwers will be back in action with the rest of the track and field teams on Friday, February 11 when BW hosts the Mid-February Meet. Field events are scheduled to start at 4:15 with running events to follow at 5:30 p.m.
