BEREA, OHIO --  Baldwin Wallace University senior 4-time Division III All-American track thrower and football defensive tackle Kevin Phipps (Patsakala/ Watkins Memorial) is this week's Ohio Athletic Conference Co-Field Event Athlete of the Week.  This is the seventh time during his outstanding football and track career that he has earned this accolade. He also joins three other Yellow Jackets who were tabbed as an OAC player-of-the-week this week.
 
Phipps earned his honor for his efforts at last Saturday's, April 23, Paul "Sparky" Adams Meet at The George Finnie Stadium in Berea.  He won the hammer throw and bettered the 38-athlete field with an NCAA Division III automatic national qualifying throw of 195-feet and seven inches. His season-best is a BW school-record throw of 198'5".  He won the discus toss and bettered the 48-participant field with a throw of 162'7". His best throw this season is an NCAA Div. III provisional qualifying throw and BW school-record of 174'0". Phipps placed second of 43 competitors in the shot put with a career-best and better NCAA Div. III qualifying throw of 52'10.75".
 
In addition to being a captain on the track team, Phipps was an All-OAC selection and team captain on the 7-3 overall football team last fall.
 
This week, Phipps will lead the Yellow Jackets into the 2011 OAC Outdoor Championship Meet at the University of Mount Union on Friday and Saturday, April 29-30. The 2011 NCAA Division III National Championship Meet is from May 26-29 at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio.
