ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA -- Senior forward Heather Keller (Parma) scored a pair of goals and senior midfielder Kayla Losco (Hopewell Twp., Pa.) added another as the Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team defeated host Penn State Behrend by a final score of 3-2 in the first game of the 2013 season at the Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament on Saturday.
BW (1-0) will play Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) University in the final game of the tournament tomorrow, Sunday, September 1 at 2:30 p.m.
The Lions (0-1) scored their only goal of the game just one minute into the game when Alex Bilka took the cross from Sam Vasy and found the back of the net.
The Yellow Jackets would respond with three unanswered goals when Keller scored her first of two goals in the 25th minute off the pass from sophomore forward Cheryl Bell (Piqua).
Losco scored her first goal of the season on a direct kick in the 54th minute. Keller scored her second goal of the game, which proved to be the game-winner, in the 58th minute off the assist from senior defender Margo Laseak (Mentor).
Behrend tacked on a late second goal in the 85th minute when Leah Morra knocked in the loose ball while the assist was credited to Bilka.
The Yellow Jackets outshot the Lions by a 14-10 count and also had an 7-5 advantage in corner kicks.
In goal for BW, sophomore Emily Tallmadge (Fairview Pa.) faced 10 shots, including eight on goal, allowed two goals and made one save for her 13th career victory.
The Yellow Jackets will play their home opener on Wednesday, September 4 when they welcome the Yeowomen of Oberlin College to the Tressel Field for a non-conference at 7 p.m. BW will then travel to Newport News, Virginia on Saturday and Sunday, September 7-8 to compete in the Captains Classic hosted by Christopher Newport University. The Yellow Jackets first face host Christopher Newport on Saturday, September 7 at 3 p.m. and then conclude the classic on Sunday, September 8 against Virginia Wesleyan University at 1 p.m.
