BW Women’s Soccer Team Wins its Fifth Straight Match

DEFIANCE, Ohio --  The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team won its fifth straight match as it defeated host Defiance College, 4-3, on Winsper-Knoble Field. 
 
BW, now 8-1 overall, has now won five straight matches and next plays on Tuesday, October 1 at Waynesburg (Pa.) College at 6:00 p.m.  With its loss, Defiance is now 3-6-1 overall.

BW opened the scoring in the 29th-minute when senior defender Sami Riveron (Maineville/Kings) scored her first goal of the season to give BW a 1-0 advantage.  The Yellow Jackets also led 1-0 at halftime.

In the second half and in the 47th-minute, BW increased its lead to 2-0 when senior midfielder All-Ohio Athletic Conference forward Hannah Cavalier (Chippewa Lake/Cloverleaf) assisted senior All-OAC forward Heather Keller (Parma).  Keller scored her fifth goal of the season and the assist is the second of the season for Cavalier.  

Cavalier increased BW's lead to 3-0 when she scored an unassisted goal at the 52:40 mark. The goal was her third this season.  

Keller scored her second of the game and her sixth of the season in the 54th-minute to give BW a 4-0 advantage, but the hosts weren't done yet.

Defiance closed the gap to 4-1 in the 66th minute when junior midfielder Lindsay Bubnick scored. She added her second goal of the game in the 69th-minute to cut BW's lead to 4-2.  She was assisted on the second goal by freshman MF Paige Courtney.

Defiance kept coming back and made the score 4-3 in the 80th minute when junior forward Maegan Redick an unassisted goal. But that was it for the Yellow Jackets who held on for the victory.

In goal for BW, sophomore Emily Tallmadge (Fairview, Pa./Fairview) started and played the first 79:26 and faced seven total shots, including six on-goal, allowed three goals and made three saves to improve to 7-1 overall.  Junior Gabrielle Bodo (Alliance/St. Thomas Aquinas) played the final 10:34 and did not allow a goal.

BW outshot Defiance by an 26-6 count and had more corner kicks, 3-2.
 
Following its match at Waynesburg, the Yellow Jackets open their Ohio Athletic Conference schedule on Saturday, Oct. 5 at The George Finnie Stadium  at 4:30 p.m.  The women's game is the opener of a women's and men's doubleheader. The BW and Otterbein men kick off at 7:00 p.m.
