BW Women’s Soccer Team Beats Wilmington, 3-1

BEREA, OHIO --- The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team defeated visiting Wilmington College, 3-1, in an Ohio Athletic Conference match on Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium.  This was the first game of a women's and men's doubleheader.  

BW (13-2, 4-1 OAC) opened the scoring in the 31st minute when senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC midfielder Kayla Losco (Hopewell Township, Pa./ Hopewell) nailed a free kick into the upper right hand corner of the net for a 1-0 lead. The goal was Losco's third this season and 10th of her career.

The Yellow Jackets took a 2-0 advantage in the 39th minute when freshman defender Kelly Gough (Hudson) scored the second goal of her career when she put the ball past the Quaker goalie and into the upper middle portion of the net. Gough was assisted by senior All-OAC forward Heather Keller (Parma). It was Keller's fourth assist this season and the 12th of her career. 

BW increased its lead to 3-0 in the 50th minute when former high school teammates and senior All-OAC forward Hanna Cavalier (Chippewa Lake/Cloverleaf) and senior All-OAC midfielder Rachel Gokey (Seville/Cloverleaf) combined for a goal. Cavalier scored her fifth goal of the season and the ninth of her career via Gokey's second assist this fall and the 11th of her career.

The Quakers (9-5-1, 3-2 OAC) finally got on the scoreboard in the 82nd minute and made it 3-1 when senior forward Paj Shelton scored her second goal of the season via an assist from sophomore forward Rachel Bowen.

In goal for the Yellow Jackets, sophomore Emily Tallmadge (Fairview, Pa.) faced eight shots, allowed one goal and made three saves as she improved to 11-2 overall.

The Yellow Jackets outshot the Quakers by a 12-8 count and also had a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.

BW is back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 22 when it travels to University Heights to play OAC and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University on Wasmer Field in Don Shula Stadium at 7 pm.  he next home match is on Wednesday, Oct. 30 when the Yellow Jackets host the University of Mount Union in Finnie Stadium at 7 pm.
