BEREA, OHIO -- Senior forward Kari Trivisonno (Mentor) scored two goals as the Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team won its home opener as it shutout Oberlin College by a final score of 5-0 on the Tressel Field inside the George Finnie Stadium on Wednesday.
BW (2-0) got the first goal of the game when Trivisonno scored in the 17th minute, which proved to be the game-winner, off the through ball from senior defender Margo Laseak (Mentor). Trivisonno scored her second goal of the game in the 23rd minute off the cross from sophomore forward Audrie Wolfe (Hilliard/Darby).
The Yellow Jackets tacked on its third goal of the first half in the 26th minute when sophomore Cheryl Bell (Piqua) buried a shot in the back of the net off the assist from senior forward Heather Keller (Parma).
BW opened the second half scoring when senior midfielder Rachel Gokey (Seville/Cloverleaf) knocked the ball into the lower right corner in the 52nd minute off the cross from senior defender Sami Riveron (Maineville/Kings).
The Yellow Jackets closed out the scoring when freshman defender Kelly Gough (Hudson) scored her first collegiate goal on a header in the 75th minute off the corner kick from senior midfielder Kayla Losco (Hopewell Township, Pa./Hopewell).
In goal for BW, junior Gabrielle Bodo (Louisville/St. Thomas Aquinas) played the first half and did not face a shot. Senior Kristina Mathur (Mason) played the second half and faced one shot.
The Yellow Jackets outshot the Yeowomen (1-3) by a 41-1 count and also had a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks.
BW next travels to Newport News, Virginia on Saturday and Sunday, September 7-8 to compete in the Captains Classic hosted by Christopher Newport University. The Yellow Jackets first plays host Christopher Newport on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 3 p.m. and then conclude the classic on Sunday, September 8 against Virginia Wesleyan University at 1 p.m.
