Softball Splits Non-Conference Doubleheader at Wooster

WOOSTER, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with The College of Wooster at Galpin Park.

In game one, BW (8-8) scored two runs runs on six hits as it plated both runs in the second inning.  Wooster (10-6) scored three runs on three hits as it pushed two runs across the plate in the second and the game winning run in the fifth.

At the Plate

  • Freshman eight fielder Steph Mraz (Strongsville) went 2-for-4 with a run scored
  • Freshman second baseman Sabrina Burke (London) picked up her first her first collegiate hit to lead three other Yellow Jacket hitters with a base knock

In the Circle

  • Sophomore right-hander Marisa Hall (Paris/East Canton) took the loss as she allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits with six strikeouts and one walk.

In game two, the Yellow Jackets scored six runs on 11 hits as they plated one run in the fourth, two in the fifth and three in the sixth.  The Fighting Scots scored three runs on six hits as they pushed one run across the plate in the fourth and two in the fifth.

At the Plate

  • Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference catcher Bridie Bricker (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) went 2-for-4
  • Junior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference third baseman Julia Gersey (Solon) went 2-for-3 with a run scored
  • Mraz went 2-for-4 with a triple, run scored and a career-high three runs batted-in (RBI)

In the Circle

  • Sophomore righty Taryn Welty (Medina/Wooster) started the game and allowed three runs on six hits with two strikeouts and walk in 4.2 innings.
  • Senior right-hander Hannah Welling (Ravenna) picked up the win in relief as she allowed no runs on no hits with four strikeouts in the final 2.1 innings.

BW returns to friendly confines of the BW Softball Field at the Roehm Athletic Complex for a six-game homestand starting on Tuesday, March 28 when the team hosts a rescheduled non-conference doubleheader against NAIA Shawnee State at 3 p.m.   The Yellow Jackets open OAC play on Saturday, April 1 when they take on Wilmington College at 1 p.m.   BW closes out the homestand on Sunday, April 2 with a non-conference doubleheader against Olivet (Mich.) College at 1 p.m.
