Softball Falls to Muskingum in OAC Doubleheader

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team fell to Muskingum University in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader on Donna J. Newberry Field.

In game one, BW (16-14, 4-6 OAC) was held scoreless on three hits.  Muskingum (20-8, 7-3) scored eight runs on seven hits as it pushed four runs across the plate in the third, three in the fifth and one in the sixth.

At the Plate

  • Junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC second baseman Emily Mau (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights), freshman left fielder Macaira Fox (Massillon/Tuslaw) and freshman right fielder Steph Mraz (Strongsville) accounted for a base hit each

In the Circle

  • Sophomore right-hander Marisa Hall (Paris/East Canton) took the loss as she allowed six runs (three earned) on five hits with four strikeouts and six walks in four innings pitched
  • Sophomore righty Sara Frederickson (Lake Balboa, Calif./Notre Dame) pitched the final two innings and allowed two runs on two hits with a strikeout and two walks

In game two, the Yellow Jackets were held scoreless on seven hits.  The Fighting Muskies scored nine runs on eight hits as they pushed six runs across the plate in the first, one in the third and two in the fourth.

At the Plate

  • Mraz went 2-for-3 with a stolen base
  • Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC designated player Alicia Saxton (Boardman), junior center fielder Lexy Coggins (Vermilion/Firelands), junior Academic All-OAC third baseman Julia Gersey (Solon), Mau and Fox all had a base knock

In the Circle

  • Sophomore right-hander Taryn Welty (Medina/Wooster) took the loss as she allowed six runs (four earned) on three hits with one strikeout and two walks in a third of an inning
  • Senior righty Hannah Welling (Ravenna) allowed three runs (one earned) on five hits with five strikeouts and three walks in the final 3.2 innings

BW is back in action on Wednesday, April 20 when it travels to Tiffin for an OAC doubleheader against Heidelberg University on Frann's Field at 3 p.m.
