Softball Extends Winning Streak to Eight, Sweeps Capital on Seniors’ Day

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team extended its winning streak to eight games as it closed out the home portion of its schedule with a sweep of Capital University in an Ohio Athletic Conference and Seniors' Day doubleheader on the BW Softball Field at the Roehm Athletic Complex.

In game one, BW (24-14, 10-6 OAC) scored two runs on five hits as it plated one run in the first and second innings.   Capital (14-16, 6-10 OAC) was held scoreless on six hits.

At the Plate

  • Junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC second baseman Emily Mau (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) went 2-for-3 with a double and run batted-in (RBI)
  • Junior All-OAC catcher Bridie Bricker (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark), sophomore third baseman Sara Frederickson (Lake Balboa, Calif./Notre Dame) and freshman first baseman Gillian Ryser (Hubbard) each had a base knock
  • Frederickson had an RBI and walk
  • Ryser had a run scored

In the Circle

  • Sophomore right-hander Marisa Hall (Paris/East Canton) won her 11th game of the season as she did not allow a run on six hits with seven strikeouts and no walks 

In game two, the Yellow Jackets scored nine runs on 10 hits as they plated one run in the first, one in the second, two in the third and five in the fifth.   The Comets scored one runs on four hits as they pushed their lone run across the plate in the second.

At the Plate

  • Junior centerfielder Lexy Coggins (Vermilion/Firelands) was 3-for-3 with a career-high three runs scored and a career-best two stolen bases
  • Bricker went 2-for-3 with a career-high two doubles, run scored and RBI
  • Frederickson went 2-for-3 with a run scored and RBI
  • Senior catcher Raegan Thompson (Mentor) went 1-for-2 with a walk
  • Freshman shortstop Lucia Wolford (McDonald) went 1-for-3 with a double, run scored, career-best three RBIs and a stolen base
  • Mau was 1-for-4 with an RBI and stolen base

In the Circle

  • Senior righty Hannah Welling (Ravenna) earned her ninth with of the season as she allowed one unearned run on four hits with six strikeouts and one walk

BW closes out the regular season portion of its schedule on Friday, May 5 when it travels to University Heights for an OAC doubleheader against crosstown rival John Carroll University on Bracken Field at 1 p.m.
