Softball Drops a Pair of OAC Games to Mount Union

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team dropped an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader to the University of Mount Union on the BW Softball Field at the Roehm Athletic Complex.

In game one, BW (14-12, 4-4 OAC) was held scoreless on five hits.  Mount Union (21-5, 6-2) scored 10 runs on 16 hits as it pushed one run across the plate in the first, one in the third, three in the fifth and five in the sixth. 

At the Plate

  • Junior All-OAC catcher Bridie Bricker (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark), freshmen right fielder Steph Mraz (Strongsville), freshman first baseman Gillian Ryser (Hubbard), freshman designated player Sam Smearman (Middleburg Heights/Berea-Midpark) and freshman shortstop Lucia Wolford (McDonald) all had a base hit
  • Bricker and Mraz had a double

In the Circle

  • Sophomore right-hander Marisa Hall (Paris/East Canton) took the loss as she allowed 10 runs on 16 hits with seven strikeouts and one walk

In game two, the Yellow Jackets scored nine runs on 12 hits as they erupted for seven runs in the first inning then plated one run in the second and one in the fourth.  The Purple Raiders scored 10 runs on 14 hits as they pushed one run across the plate in the first, two in the second, five in the fourth and two in the sixth.

At the Plate

  • Junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC second baseman Emily Mau (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) went 3-for-5 with a run scored
  • Sophomore third baseman Sara Frederickson (Lake Balboa, Calif./Notre Dame) went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs batted-in (RBIs)
  • Freshman left fielder Macaira Fox (Massillon/Tuslaw) went 2-for-5 with a run scored and RBI
  • Mraz went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs
  • Junior center fielder Lexy Coggins (Vermilion/Firelands), Ryser and Smearman all had a base knock
  • Coggins had two runs scored and an RBI
  • Ryser and Smearman each had a run scored and an RBI

In the Circle

  • Sophomore righty Taryn Welty (Medina/Wooster) got the no decision as she allowed three runs on five hits with a walk in 1.2 innings pitched
  • Senior right-hander Hannah Welling (Ravenna) took the loss as she allowed seven runs (six earned) on nine hits with six strikeouts and two walks

BW is back in action on Thursday, April 13 when it travels to nearby Oberlin for a non-conference doubleheader against Oberlin College on Culhane Field inside Dolcemaschio Stadium at 3:30 p.m.
