Softball Earns Second OAC Sweep, Wins Pair at Heidelberg

TIFFIN, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team closed out its six-game road trip as it swept an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader over Heidelberg University on Frann's Field.

In game one, BW (18-14, 6-6 OAC) scored three runs on eight hits as it plated all its runs in the seventh.  Heidelberg (15-18, 6-6) scored two runs on four hits as it pushed its runs across the plate in the fourth. 

At the Plate

  • Freshman left fielder Macaira Fox (Massillon/Tuslaw) went 2-for-4 with a double, first career triple and two runs batted-in (RBIs)
  • Sophomore third baseman Sara Frederickson (Lake Balboa, Calif./Notre Dame) went 2-for-2 with a walk
  • Junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC second baseman Emily Mau (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights), junior center fielder Lexy Coggins (Vermilion/Firelands), freshman right fielder Steph Mraz (Strongsville) and freshman shortstop Lucia Wolford (McDonald) each added a base knock
  • Wolford scored a run

In the Circle

  • Sophomore right-hander Marisa Hall (Paris/East Canton) won her ninth game of the season as she allowed two runs on four hits with five strikeouts and one walk in her 11th complete game of the year

In game two, the Yellow Jackets scored three runs on nine hits as they plated two runs in the second and one in the seventh.   The Student Princes scored one run on five hits as they pushed their lone run across the plate in the fifth.

At the Plate

  • Freshman first baseman Gillian Ryser (Hubbard) and Wolford each went 2-for-3 with a run scored
  • Mau went 2-for-4 with an RBI
  • Freshman designated player Sam Smearman (Middleburg Heights/Berea-Midpark), Fox and Frederickson
  • Fox had an RBI
  • Smearman had a run scored

In the Circle

  • Senior righty Hannah Welling (Ravenna) earned her seventh win of the season as she allowed one run on five hits with seven strikeouts and three walks in her third complete game of the season

BW is back in action on Saturday, April 22 when it begins a six-game homestand as it hosts an OAC doubleheader against Otterbein University on the BW Softball Field inside the Roehm Athletic Complex at 1 p.m.
