Softball Falls to Mount Union in OAC Tournament Championship

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The third seeded Baldwin Wallace University softball team fell to top-seeded and host the University of Mount Union in the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament Championship game on the 23rd Street Softball Field.

BW (28-16) finishes as the OAC Tournament runner-up for the fifth time in school history.   Mount Union (36-9) wins its third OAC Tournament Championship and earns the OAC automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Softball Tournament 

The Yellow Jackets were held scoreless on six hits.  The Purple Raiders scored eight runs on 10 hits as they pushed two runs across the plate in the first, two in the third, two in the fifth and two in the seventh.

Junior All-OAC catcher Bridie Bricker (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark), sophomore third baseman Sara Frederickson (Lake Balboa, Calif/Notre Dame) and freshman first baseman Gillian Ryser (Hubbard) were selected to the OAC All-Tournament team.

At the Plate

  • Frederickson went 2-for-3
  • Freshman left fielder Macaira Fox (Massillon/Tuslaw) went 2-for-3
  • Bricker and freshman right fielder Steph Mraz (Strongsville) each had a base hit

In the Circle

  • Sophomore right hander Marisa Hall (Paris/East Canton) took the loss as she allowed four runs on three hits with two walks in 2.1 innings pitched
  • Senior righty Hannah Welling (Ravenna) allowed four runs (two earned) on seven hits with one strikeout and one walk in the final 4.2 innings
