Softball Wins Sixth Straight Game, Sweeps Olivet (Mich.) in Non-Conference Finale

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball closed won its sixth straight game as it closed out its non-conference portion of its schedule with a sweep of Olivet (Mich.) College on the BW Softball Field at the Roehm Athletic Complex.

In game one, BW (22-14) scored 11 runs on 13 hits as it plated three runs in the first, two in the second, three in the third and three in the fourth.   Olivet (0-18) scored one run on two hits as it pushed its lone run across the plate in the first.

At the Plate

  • Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC second baseman Emily Mau (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) went 4-for-4 with three runs scored, three runs batted-in (RBIs) and career-high tying three stolen bases
  • Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC designated player Alicia Saxton (Boardman) went 2-for-3 with a run scored and RBI
  • Junior center fielder Lexy Coggins (Vermilion/Firelands) went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs
  • Freshman right fielder Steph Mraz (Strongsville) went 2-for-4 with a run scored
  • Sophomore third baseman Sara Frederickson (Lake Balboa, Calif./Notre Dame), freshman first baseman Gillian Ryser (Hubbard) and freshman catcher Chloe Snyder (London) all had a base hit
  • Frederickson had an RBI and walk
  • Ryser had a run scored
  • Snyder had her first collegiate hit, run scored and RBI

In the Circle

  • Senior right-hander Hannah Welling (Ravenna) won her eighth game of the season as she allowed one unearned run on two hits with five strikeouts and one walk

In game two, the Yellow Jackets scored eight runs on nine hits as they plated seven runs in the first, one in the fourth.   The Comets scored five runs on six hits as they pushed three runs across the plate in the fifth and one in the sixth.

At the Plate

  • Senior catcher/first baseman Raegan Thompson (Mentor) went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and RBI
  • Senior Academic All-OAC right fielder Jackie Kasai (Columbus/Upper Arlington) went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a career-high tying two RBIs
  • Junior second baseman Ana LaGuardia (Medina) went 1-for-3 with a run scored and a career-best two RBIs
  • Sophomore first baseman/catcher Rylee Schaar (Fayetteville, N.C. / McLean {Va.}) went- 1-for-2 with a walk
  • Freshman center fielder Sammy Aey (Cortland/Austintown Fitch) went 1-for-4 with a run scored and stolen base
  • Freshman third baseman Sam Smearman (Middleburg Heights/Berea-Midpark) went 1-for-2 with a run scored and RBI

In the Circle

  • Sophomore righty Taryn Welty (Medina/Wooster) won her fourth game of the season as she allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits with two strikeout and no walks in a career-high 6.1 innings pitched
  • Welling picked up her first collegiate save as she did not allow a run or a hit with one strikeout in the final two-thirds of an inning.

BW is back in action on Saturday, April 29 when it hosts an OAC and Seniors' Day doubleheader against Capital University at 1 p.m.
