Four Softball Players Selected to All-OAC Squad; Coaching Staff Named Co-Staff of the Year

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Four Baldwin Wallace University softball players have been selected to the 2023 All-Ohio Athletic Conference team while Head Coach Tom Spencer and the rest of his staff were named as the Co-OAC Coaching Staff of the Year.

Junior second baseman Emily Mau (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights), sophomore utility player Sara Frederickson (Lake Balboa, Calif./Notre Dame) and freshman outfielder Steph Mraz (Strongsville) were named to the second team.  Freshman outfielder Macaira Fox (Massillon/Tuslaw) was tabbed as honorable mention.

Spencer and his staff earn the award for the second after earning it in 2011.  He was also named the Coach of the Year in 2001.

Mau, who garners her third accolade, after being selected as first team last season and second team as a freshman.  She led the team and was third in the OAC with a career-high tying 18 stolen bases and was tied for team lead with 22 runs batted in (RBIs). Mau batted .357 with three doubles, two inside the park homeruns, one triple, 46 runs scored and four walks.  For her career, Mau has appeared in 109 games and is batting .369 (137-of-371).  She ranks third all-time in school history with 51 stolen bases and 12th with 84 runs scored. Mau has tallied 14 doubles, three inside the park homeruns, two triples, 41 RBIs, 20 walks, 167 putouts and 139 assists.  Off the field, she is an Academic All-OAC performer, Dean's List Student, Jacket Scholar and a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society.

Frederickson, who earns her first honor, was also selected to the 2023 All-OAC Tournament team earlier this season.  This season, she was second on the team was second on the team with a career-high 3.62 batting average (25-of-69).  Frederickson recorded career-highs in walks (11), doubles (8), runs scored (9) and triples (1). She has also had a career-tying 11 RBIs.  Frederickson tallied 20 putouts and 11 assists between the circle, infield and outfield.  For her career, Frederickson has appeared in 59 games and is batting .295 (44-of149).  She has recorded 22 RBIs, 16 walks, 12 doubles and one triple. 

Mraz, who garners her first accolade, led the team and was sixth in the OAC with a .400 batting average.  She was tied for the squad lead in triples with two, fifth in runs scored with 20, tied for fifth with six doubles and eight with 16 RBIs. Mraz tallied six stolen bases, three walks, 34 putouts and one assist. 

Fox, who earns her first honor, led the team and was tied for eighth in the OAC with 11 doubles. She led the team in and was tied for ninth in the league with 14 walks.  Fox tied for the squad lead with 22 RBIs, third in stolen bases with nine was fourth with 22 runs scored. She recorded her first career triple at Heidelberg University on April 19 and belted her first career homerun at John Carroll University on May 5.  Fox tallied 53 putouts and five assists.

BW finished the season with an overall record of 28-16 and placed third in the OAC with a mark of 12-6.  The Yellow Jackets won two games in the OAC Tournament before falling in the OAC Tournament Championship series.
