Softball Picks Up Second Consecutive Sweep, Wins Pair of OAC Games Over Otterbein

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball swept its second consecutive Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader as it took a pair of games from Otterbein University on the BW Softball Field at the Roehm Athletic Complex.

In game one, BW (20-14, 8-6 OAC) scored six runs on six hits as it plated two runs in the third and three in the fourth off the three-run blast by junior All-OAC catcher Bridie Bricker (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) and one in the fifth.   Otterbein (14-15-1, 7-7 OAC) scored five runs on six hits as it pushed two runs across the plate second and three in the fifth.

At the Plate

  • Bricker went 2-for-3 with a homerun, two runs scored and three runs batted-in (RBIs)
  • Senior Academic All-OAC designated player Jackie Kasai (Columbus/Upper Arlington), Junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC second baseman Emily Mau (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights), freshman left fielder Macaira Fox (Massillon/Tuslaw) and freshman first baseman Gillian Ryser (Hubbard) each had base hit
  • Fox had a double and two RBIs
  • Kasai and Mau had a run scored

In the Circle

  • Sophomore right-hander Marisa Hall (Paris/Eats Canton) won her 10th game of the season as she allowed five runs on six hits with seven strikeouts and three walks

In game two, the Yellow Jackets scored 13 runs on 13 hits as they plated three runs in the first, three in the fourth, five in the fifth, including two on the first collegiate homerun for freshman right fielder Steph Mraz (Strongsville), and two in the sixth.   The Cardinals scored four runs on seven hits as they pushed two runs across the plate in the second and two in the third.

At the Plate

  • Mraz went 3-for-4 with a double, first career homerun, a career-high three runs scored and a career-best tying three RBIs
  • Mau went 3-for-5 with a career-high four runs scored, two RBIs and stolen base
  • Fox went 2-for-4 with a career-best two doubles, career-high four RBIs and run scored
  • Junior center fielder Lexy Coggins (Vermilion/Firelands) went 2-for-4 with a double, run scored and RBI
  • Bricker went 2-for-4 with an RBI and walk
  • Ryser went 1-for-3 with a career-best tying two runs scored

In the Circle

  • Senior righty Hannah Welling (Ravenna) allowed four runs on six hits with two strikeouts in 2.1 inning of no decision action
  • Sophomore right-hander Taryn Welty (Medina/Wooster) picked up her third win of the season as she did not allow a run on one hit with two strikeouts and two walks in the final 3.2 innings.

BW is back in action on Sunday, April 23 when it hosts its non-conference doubleheader finale against Olivet (Mich.) College at 1 p.m.
