Softball Splits First OAC Road Doubleheader with Ohio Northern

ADA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team split an Ohio Athletic Conference road doubleheader with Ohio North University on the ONU Softball Field.

In game one, BW (10-10, 3-1 OAC) scored one runs on four hits as it plated its lone run in the fourth on a bases loaded run batted-in (RBI) walk by junior All-OAC catcher Bridie Bricker (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark).  Ohio Northern (10-10, 1-3 OAC) scored three runs on six hits as it pushed one runs across the plate in first, second and fifth innings. 

At the Plate

  • Junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC second baseman Emily Mau (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights), freshman right fielder Steph Mraz (Strongsville), freshman first baseman Gillian Ryser (Hubbard) and freshman shortstop Lucia Wolford (McDonald) each had a base hit

In the Circle

  • Sophomore right-hander Marisa Hall (Paris/East Canton) suffered the loss as she allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits with six strikeouts and three walks.

In game two, the Yellow Jackets scored eight runs on nine hits as they plated four runs in the third and fourth innings.  The Polar Bears scored two runs on one hit as they pushed one run across the plate in the fifth and sixth.

At the Plate

  • Freshman left fielder Macaira Fox (Massillon/Tuslaw) tied a career-high with three hits as she went 3-for-4 with a double, run scored, RBI and walk
  • Sophomore right fielder Sara Frederickson (Lake Balboa, Calif./Notre Dame) went 2-for-4 with a career-high two doubles, one run scored and RBI
  • Bricker went 2-for-4 with a double, run scored and RBI
  • Junior center fielder Lexy Coggins (Vermilion/Firelands) and Ryser each added a base knock
  • Coggins had a double, career-best tying two runs scored and an RBI
  • Ryser had a run scored and RBI

In the Circle

  • Senior righty Hannah Welling (Ravenna) won her fourth game of the season as she allowed one run on one hit with five strike outs and six walks in 4.1 innings pitched
  • Hall pitched the final 2.2 innings and allowed one run on no hits with no strikeouts and three walks. 

BW is back in action on Friday, April 7 as it remains on the road when it travels to Marietta for an OAC doubleheader against Marietta College on Marietta Field at 1 p.m.
